How to Improve Your Photography

grasping the technicalities photographs are used to a lot of research and practice. Today, digital camera, autofocus, metering systems, etc, are so good it's really no excuse for failing to get the technical aspects of the law.

However, if you look at the galleries in many of these sites that cater to one particular make of camera, you'll find that there are an awful lot of dross. People spend hundreds of pounds on equipment and then just take snaps of their pets and their children.

it occurred to me that, although these photographers now have the means to take sharp, well exposed images, they have no idea what a good photograph above those qualities.

the development of photographic "eye"
Their problem is that they spend too much time looking at the camera brochures and articles explaining how to perform certain techniques, without trying to develop an eye for photography ".

So how do you develop the "eye" then? Well, you make the target image. No camera, lens or other piece of equipment, but the pictures. That's the key: the creation of images all at the end all of photographic processes. It might seem obvious, but a visit to the "marque web page I mentioned above and you'll quickly see that some people are getting the message. Caressing the camera, "testing" their lenses and purchasing additional equipment seems to have goals in many cases.

Make image count
Once you decide to concentrate on the pictures, your pictures will take off in another direction. Web sites you visit will not change. You'll start to look for photographers' website before the camera review sites. You'll stop looking at the pictures the camera and start looking at more photos and that's when the breakthrough comes.

Looking at the photos, in fact, not just "looking", but "really looks", is a way to develop an eye. I have no scientific evidence for this, but I firmly believe that looking at great photos encourages types of pattern recognition to develop in the brain. You subconsciously absorb the elements that make up the picture appeal to you. That is what happened to me and my photography has come on leaps and bounds as a result.

Armed with this "template", you will begin to notice the pictures would not have seen before. Keep in mind that this is not the same as copying someone else's photography: it is a way of using compositional and tonal strength on the scene in front of you and making something coherent of it

.

But back to looking at photos. I'd suggest getting a book Magnum Landscape (Phaidon 1996, ISBN 0714836427) and looking at no other book or publication for at least two weeks. It is expensive but it has some fabulous photos.

Learning to look
Look at it from cover to cover spending some time actually scan the image. There will be some you like, let not the only one that will stop you in your tracks. Really examine the "wow"image. Ask what is on them that you like. Try to understand why photography works. Is the quality of light? Either way the picture is composed? Does it make you wonder what is happening or why a photographer who was in the first place. In fact, ask yourself why the photographer took it and try to find the answer.

The more you think about great images like this, the more you will start to recognize, in everyday life around you, the potential for good if not great-photos.

Drinking Your Way Around the World

used to be that when people go to their stupendously expensive European vacation, they did so for the high culture, fabulous food, classy wine, and old world charm. traditional cuisine in the United States at the time consisted of hamburgers, hot dogs, casseroles, and later, the pizza of dubious quality. France and Italy in particular are known for their kitchen. Those wealthy enough to return from their trip along the Riviera and wax poetic about the culinary delights enjoyed there. food consumed during the trip was a sign of true sophistication.

the world is shrinking these days, and often you can get an amazing selection of food (all shapes, sizes and species), and inevitably some of it will be good enough and exotic enough to negate the need for travel exclusively for food. This is especially true if you live in a major metropolitan area with a large immigrant population. Gone are the days when you could just get a real croissants in France, and when you could just get a real bagel in New York City (although the latter is still controversial in my mind .)

Building and Remodeling Your Getaway

cabin in the country was perfect for me and my hunting tournament, but was not big enough for my wife. My old cab is comfortable, but not what my wife has been conceived as a dream house in the woods.

retirement is still several years away and spending lots of money on housing that will be vacant 95% of the time was not what I intended. trip to Shreveport in search of housing have brought good results. We found 14 x 28 foot metal building that had only the bare walls. The building is one large door on the front plus two front windows. There is a large garage door at one end. Obviously, this building was meant to be used for vehicle storage unit.

We made calls to the builder and asked for changes to the building which is
built for us. an exact duplicate of the one we saw on a lot, but with our
implemented changes ordered. We called for the removal of doors and
added window space for air conditioning. We asked the builder to install five electric
action with the light switches for ceiling lights.

We had to wait two months ended on the day that the builder said that the driver was ready to bring the building out onto our land. Bull Dozier and the operator who I hired to install the trees clearly inadequate job. On the third trip to our area movers were finally able to gain access to the installation area.

I installed the fiber glass insulation in the walls and the ceiling area. The ceiling is very high
and required huge amounts of insulation, which I installed with a staple gun. I used chicken
wire to hold insulation in the ceiling. I added a canvas cloth over the wire instead of
another kind of ceiling covering. I installed wood paneling on the walls. The floor is covered
with padding and carpet, partitions, was elected to the wall of the bathroom area. shower
contribution has been installed with proper plumbing. WC has been added to this
small area. lighting fixtures on the ceiling was exchanged for a ceiling fan with the attached
lighting. We installed the floor at one end of the building that can be used for storage or
as well as extra sleeping quarters.

weighty concrete step has been added for stability at the entrance. air conditioning
installed in an extra hole in the wall that was cut by the builder. Under the floor are
added fridge and freezer. Cabinetry is cut to accommodate the space
available in the building. Sheets are located at one end, which is surrounded by a couch with
suitable structure built for television. dining room set off to one side. This includes
table with matching chairs. The walls are decorated to suit the taste of my wife.

Exit the building we encounter an electric pole on the outside outlets are on it.
Wiring of electrical devices built to control the bug population is plugged directly into one
at retail outlets.

remodeled building is located a few hundred meters away from any habitation. Published
hundred feet back off from the main road. It seems to be the perfect solution to the desire
and a dream to have a booth located in the area of total privacy. Plans are now in the works
to add a deck in front with space for a hot tub. My wife chose a place for our new shares
tank. Wharf will have to be built to accommodate the fishermen who will use it.

Our ideas are endless.
